Hans Georg Werner Schmidt,

Artist

H.G.W.Schmidt

is an german illstrater and visual artist, specializing in öls,
pastels and watercolour. Mr. Schmidt started drawing and painting at the
young age of 5, fascinated by the natural beauty found on his long walks
through the forests with his parents. He often would come home from
these walks and draw from memory what he had seen that day.
This began a lifelong passion for creating art as it was filtered through his
curious and focused eyes.

A

fter briefly attending the University of Art in Kassel, Mr. Schmidt forged
his own path, seeking to find his voice and style using his own methods,
much of it rooted in expressionism and surreallism which was popular at
the time in germany in the 1960`s. He participated in many shows with
friends, and focused on large works. Primarily surrealism, to advance
his skills.

H

is most recent works have focused on both people and places, balancing
lively motion and colour in the serene and private moments found in secluded beaches. private vineyards and the expanses of the Southern English
countryside. There is a substantial line of work done during his years in
Portugal working as both a painter and a fisherman, running his own boat. His works are alive with motion, yet  balanced and calming with their perfect
colours and energy.

H

e paints with large brushes and a delicate hand,  seeking to find the ssence
of his imagery with simple strokes.

P

eople and their expressions are focus, their emotions are brough to life
on his canvas with the simplest of lines.

M

r. Schmidt cites Fuchs, Gauguin, Bak, Magritte, Max Ernst, Salvatore Dali,
David Hockney and Delvoux as some of his important influences.
In his own words, he describes his process.

"
I have learned much from nature, focusing on the sea and movement.
I love to watch people-how they move and interact in the simplesr of ways
paint them directly, or sometimes from a distance, never disturbing them.
I often paint from my memeory, back in the studio, or spend time in the
landscapes where I love to work
."

C

urrently, Mr. Schmidt is focusing on establishing himself in galleries and
to continue with private showings on an international level. He has shown,
and has a loyal following for his works in Germany, Spain, Portugal, France, England and the United States.
